Gothics - MARILYN - 1959 Higher Quality!
Session player Sal DiTroia on guitar, and is the band leader. Well known in the mid 60's for prominent guitar parts in various Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich, Shadow Morton and many Monkees tunes, such as the guitar hook in "I'm a Believer".
My dad had one of these MG TD's in the late 70's and 80's. That was one fun car! His was a '53, which was virtually identical to the '52 in this video.

Flamingos - HURRY HOME BABY - 1953 HQ In The Pocket!
Просмотров 7206 месяцев назад
In recording this tune, Prentice McCary comes in on piano along with Cowboy Martin on upright bass, then there's Dick Davis on tenor sax and nice solo, plus Little Gates at the drums. King Kolax leads the band, with Jake Carey singing lead. Bass vocal mixed to be more prominent, when needed.
Spaniels - YOU DON'T MOVE ME - 1954 Smooth HQ!

So, here you have Al Pitts on tenor sax & the solo; Ernest Robinson on piano; Jimmy Johnson on acoustic bass; and George Green on the skins. Recorded December 20th 1953, with Gerald Gregory singing lead.
Chaperones - DANCE WITH ME - 1960 Original HQ Stereo!
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Left channel adjusted for better balance due to guitar "chugging" part, and others being undermixed. Tony Amato sings lead, backed by Roy Marchesano (first tenor), Tommy Ronka (second tenor), Nick Salvato (baritone) and Rich Messina (bass). These guys were from Farmingdale, NY on Long Island.
Hollywood Flames - FARE THEE WELL - 1954 - No Scratchy Record!

Just so you know, Maxwell Davis is on that great tenor sax part, Monroe Tucker is on piano, Irving Ashby is on guitar, Red Callender is on upright bass, and Lee Young is on drums. David Ford sings lead.
Arthur Lee Maye & The Crowns - LOVE ME ALWAYS - 1955!

The Crowns backing Arthur Lee Maye here were Richard Berry, Charles Colbert, Joe Moore And Johnny Coleman. Maxwell Davis on tenor sax.
Flamingos - CARRIED AWAY - 1953 HQ Energy!

Red Holloway on the tenor sax solo, backed by his band with the great Lefty Bates sitting in on guitar. Includes Mac Easton on baritone sax, Louis Carpenter on piano, Hawk Lee on acoustic bass and Hendu Henderson on drums. Some backing harmonies, bass vocals, and instrument accents (such as by Lefty Bates) made more prominent as they seemed a bit mixed down. Sollie McElroy sings lead, and Johnn...

Mac Badskins is on the prominent drum part, Earl Gainey is on guitar, Maurice Williams is on piano, and the guitar also played the bass part. Maurice Williams sings lead; backed by Earl Gainey, a tenor; Bob Robertson; also a tenor; Willie Jones singing baritone, and Norman Wade who sang bass.
Satellites - HEAVENLY ANGEL - 1958 QUALITY!
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.Год назад
Curtis Williams sings lead, backed by David Ford, Earl Nelson, and a bass singer even those on the session have never credited. All sources for this, including CD versions and direct record transfers, seem to have dropouts in the same places and uneven sections, so it might have been on the original recording. I fixed most of them.
Impalas - WHY - 1958 Improved HQ!
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
Backed by Buddy T and His T-Men. Lead vocal is Bobby Byrd, AKA Bobby Day. Lots of small tweaks. CD versions of this tune were muddy, many eliminating the "cowbell" and beginning 2-beat drum intro, others with cowbell screwing up some vocal syllables. Tenor sax in the solo is more prominent and balanced out. Probably the only thing you'll notice is increased volume on those few tiny bass vocal i...
Du Droppers - I ONLY HAD A LITTLE - 1954 Upbeat HQ!

Everett Barksdale on guitar; Al Williams on piano; Sam Taylor on tenor sax; Lloyd Trotman on upright bass; and Joe Marshall on drums. Just cleaned up the mix a bit for clarity. Recorded December 1953 in NY.
Continental Five - MY LONELY FRIEND - 1959 Hi Quality!
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
Backed by Lil Walters Band from Richmond, Virginia. Nice prominent baritone sax. Written by Benjamin F. Allen, who owned Nu Kat Records that released this song, and under the name of Johnie Jon. Joe Jefferson sings lead, backed by William Spratley, Clyde Robertson, Joseph Cooper and Joseph Harper.
Teddy Randazzo - I'LL STOP ANYTHING I'M DOING - 1957 Full Length HQ
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
The original movie scene cuts out the entire nice baritone sax solo. I restored that using the master recording, also tweaked for a better mix and warmth. Teddy is backed by "The Sounds", a group which included Bobby Day and Earl Nelson from the Hollywoood Flames.

When i grow older i became more aware that i like this music. From time to time i listen to it pretty much because it gives super duper good vibes - AND as a little side note it reminds me to my dad who passed away several years ago. Thanks Dad!

I find this version horrible. The instruments bury the group in the mix; the floating first tenor is totally absent, the lyrics are completely different. and the arrangement is not the same. In short, this song is nothing like the released version and totally inferior. Also, who makes a label for a "pre-release version" of a song. Who was Capitol going to send the record to? Since the label says it's from Canada, maybe that's the explanation. Because I've never seen a pre-release version of a song, and becuase of the raw, completely unprofessional sound of the recording, I'm questioning the authenticity of the record. I'm thinking it was just a pracice tape that someone slapped a label onto. What is on the flip side?
